Her early successes in the performing arts, which is now known as Maureen O'Hara, would certainly be a qualifier to be in her place in the "child prodigy" category. However, for a child from Irish heritage surrounded by gifted parents and a loving family, those were not innate traits. Maureen joined this wonderful sanctuary within Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th of 1920. Marguerita LIlburn FitzSimons, her mom. She was a accomplished contralto. The father of her, Charles FitzSimons, managed a business in Dublin and was also the owner of the famous Irish soccer team "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen was the third of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen did well as a sporty woman and participated in rough, competitive games when she was young. This interest was combined with the natural ability to perform. The fact that she was awarded nearly all Feis awards for her native country's theater and drama proved this. When she turned 14, the Abbey Theater accepted her and allowed her to live out her dream in classical theater as well as singing opera.
